🐤 EP.2 Playtype: Solo kill & Teamfight

Legends, 🐤Quacky here!

Welcome to the EP.2 of Legendaries Card Playtype, where we delve into the captivating LoL world of teamfights and solo kills.

In League of Legends, a ‘solo kill’ refers to a thrilling 1-on-1 encounter where a player successfully eliminates their opponent and showcases a playtype of pure dominance. These exhilarating duels often take place during the laning phase and in the mid-to-late game, as teams battle for control over the map using their solo-laners. Now, diving into the 2023 LCK Spring season, who, in your opinion, stood out as the most dominant player? And which particular play was left unforgettable in your memory?

Two remarkable solo kill moments from the 2023 LCK Spring Playoffs were chosen. These thrilling occurrences unfolded, after a 1817-day gap, in a highly anticipated and fiercely competitive match known as the “Telecom War,” between T1 vs. KT in the playoffs’ R2.

With the set score tied at 1:1, in the early stages of the third set, T1’s Zeus made a decisive move to seize control and shift the momentum in his team’s favor.

Renowned as the 2023 LCK Spring’s Most Solo Kill Player, Zeus has earned a reputation for catching opponents off-guard and securing solo kills through his exceptional lane dominance. Despite his impressive individual accolades, the statistics from the 2023 Spring season indicated that Jax held a commanding 9:3 win ratio against K’sante. Given this analysis, many anticipated KT Kiin’s Jax to dominate the top lane. However, true to his title as the Most Solo Kill player, Zeus defied expectations, finding the perfect striking angle and displaying exceptional skill distribution to bring down Kiin.

As the “Telecom War” holds a special place in LCK history and culture, both teams engaged in a captivating back-and-forth battle throughout the playoff sets, ultimately leading to a thrilling fifth and final set.

The fifth set commenced with an intense and fiercely contested battle, much like the preceding sets. However, it was the TOP lane where the tide of momentum began to shift.

During the early stages of laning, Kiin’s Jayce made a bold decision to initiate a trade against Zeus. With Kiin’s exceptional accuracy and a well-executed ambush, he successfully secured a solo kill on Zeus’ Gnar, setting the stage for KT’s snowball effect in the crucial final set of the “Telecom War.

The showdown between Kiin, a former Asian Games national top player, and Zeus, the current Asian Games national top representative, exemplified the incredible prowess of top laners, living up to the high expectations as representatives of the Korean national team.

Let’s dive into our next playtype:

TEAMFIGHT

Teamfights typically involve battles between four or more players on each team. These encounters often revolve around crucial objectives like Heralds, Drakes, and Barons, which we refer to as “objective teamfights.

While a solo kill showcases individual skill and the ability to capitalize on killing opportunities, teamfights serve as a measure of a player’s capacity to fulfill their role, maintain proper positioning, prioritize targets, and execute coordinated skill combinations as part of a cohesive team. It is through teamfights, especially in the mid-to-late game, that the outcome of a match can take a dramatic turn, emphasizing the significance of teamwork.

In the midst of an intense showdown between the rival teams, all eyes were fixed on Baron, the epicenter of a battle that held the potential to determine the match’s ultimate fate.

True to their nickname, the “Baron bandits,” T1’s Faker took the lead and pulled off a remarkable play by stealing the Baron with the smite from his Unsealed Spellbook. This daring move inspired T1 to chase down a retreating KT.

Caught off guard by the sudden disadvantage, KT desperately sought an opportunity to turn the tides as they retreated. And then, it happened! The well-fed T1 Gumayusi’s Zeri inadvertently overextended, granting KT the opening they had been yearning for. KT without hesitation, seized the moment and initiated the fight.

During this crucial teamfight, Kiin’s Jax stood out with impeccable positioning and expert utilization of the Perfectly Timed Stopwatch to pull aggro from the enemy, causing damage loss. Furthermore, Kiin’s well-timed use of Jax’s Counter Strike(third ability)  facilitated the skill combinations within the KT lineup, turning the battle into an emphatic “ACE,” to mark the conclusion of the teamfight.

The final and decisive Set 5 witnessed an extraordinary display from KT’s Kiin, who expertly executed a solo kill, igniting KT’s advantage early in the game. By the 20-minute mark, they had an impressive 5,000 gold lead and Kiin’s exceptional KDA of 5/0/1 made him an unstoppable force in the side lanes, leaving T1 struggling to match his dominance. This prompted T1 to make a bold decision, to gamble on securing Baron.

Sensing this, KT rushed anxiously to prevent T1 from securing Baron, inadvertently giving up advantageous positioning. In the midst of chaos, T1 Faker, sniped Kiin’s Jayce with precision, utilizing his abilities to toss him to his teammates. With a perfectly executed wombo-combo, Jayce was eliminated within seconds. But that was not all—Faker’s didn’t stop there. He proceeded to single-handedly take down KT’s ADC, Aiming, carrying his team towards a turnaround.

Solo kill relies on an individual’s precise execution of abilities and techniques to apply pressure, ultimately granting the team an advantage. On the other hand, teamfights hinge on each player’s understanding of their role and their ability to work together cohesively, creating synergy within the team.

It’s time to voice your thoughts, Legends! In the realm of LoL, between solo kills and teamfights, which playtype do you consider more vital or impactful? Remember, there are no definitive answers in the world of LoL. With your discerning judgment, embrace your LCK player cards and make your mark!
